about link & copy.

[ link & copy ]

don't send me any of that "may i link to your site?" crap! i'm not some stingy prick, so just link to whatever you want and do it quietly! if you dare send me one of those emails, the answer is "no." i'm not so bored that i have time to check your background and decide whether you're worthy or not. if i were that petty, i wouldn't have put this stuff out there for free in the first place. if i thought my work wasn't fit for public eyes, i would've pulled it down myself.

as long as you do it without making a fuss, i've got zero complaints. link to me with high praise, or link to me just to call me an idiot—i don't care. do whatever the hell you want. if it's a fan mail that doubles as a "heads-up," fine. and if you're offering to throw some tips my way, i'll take 'em—and you should be grateful i'm even accepting. in those cases, i'll actually bother to write back and show a bit of courtesy.

but otherwise, why the hell should i bear the cost of receiving, reading, and replying to your emails? especially since those types of messages are always buried in fake politeness, circling the drain with endless greetings and formalities that never get to the point. they're long, bureaucratic, and it's obvious they're just "playing nice" to cover their own asses.

if you're so paranoid that you think linking is "risky" without explicit permission, or if you claim it's legally impossible, then don't bother linking at all. i have no time for people (individuals or corporations alike) who read a sentence saying "feel free to link" and still lack the brainpower to understand it!

if you want to copy the whole thing, just keep the text as is (or clearly mark any changes), credit the original url and copyright, and state that it's free to redistribute. do that, and i won't say a word. just get on with it!
